Speed Up Your Mac

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Want a quick way to speed up your Mac that I just tried and found that it really does work? Clean off your OS/X Desktop. Radically minimize the number of files and folders on your Apple Desktop.

Also, to prevent future clutter, change your web browser’s default “Download” setting to a folder other than the Desktop.

This is a simple thing to do and it really does work!

Is Alltel Blocking YouTube?

Friday, April 17th, 2009

I have two separate air cards — one from Sprint, the other from Alltel.

I’ve been using the Alltel air card for the past few days. I was on the computer a lot yesterday, including watching several videos on the YouTube website.

Starting this morning, I tried watching YouTube videos from the YouTube site, and no matter what I tried I kept getting the following YouTube error message across the top of the page where the video is normally located:

“Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe’s Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.”

I got the error message in FireFox on OS/X. I got the error message in Safari on OS/X.

With the Alltel air card still connected, I swichted to my Windows Vista VMware virtual machine. I got the error message in FireFox, Internet Explorer and Safari in the Windows Vista virtual machine.

Next, leaving the browser window open to the page with the error message, I disconnected the Alltel modem and plugged in the Sprint modem. I clicked the “refresh” button on FireFox and the video that wouldn’t load before, instantly loaded and started playing.

When the Alltel air card was plugged in, I could play embedded YouTube videos, but NO YouTube videos from the YouTube site. I also was unable to get Hulu.Com videos to play either with the Alltel modem connected.

What gives, Alltel?

Susan Boyle singing “Cry Me A River”

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Susan Boyle, the overnight singing sensation contestant from “Britain’s Got Talent” released a charity CD back in 1999. She is the type of person most people would just overlook from a purely visual standpoint. And yet, the singing voice that comes out of her mouth is absolutely incredible!

The health Nazi’s are at it again. They saw how easy it was to demonize tobacco and trans-fats. Now they are going after sugar “for the children.”

Didn’t Know My Phone Could Do That…

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

I am currently without a load so I was about to watch something on Hulu. Instead I ended up getting the idea I might be able to watch it on my phone instead. I did a Google search and found a browser that works on my phone that has full multimedia capability. I can not only watch Hulu, but YouTube videos as well. That’s pretty amazing. I just watched a good three hours or more worth of videos on Hulu right on my phone.

The browser is called Skyfire and is available at http://get.skyfire.com/.

Go ahead, make fun of Windows Mobile. You can’t watch Hulu.Com or YouTube videos on your iPhone…

Scientists A Step Closer To Reading Minds

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

In my audio podcast for some time now I’ve been saying that eventually scientists will figure out first how to read minds, and then politicians will inevitably want to control your thoughts. One day there will be a machine that can read the information that stored in your brain cells, just like reading information from a hard drive.

Once that capability exists, what is to stop a government official to check the contents of your brain to see if there are any illegal images stored in your brain? After all, it’s just a storage mechanism, just like any other read/write memory source.

Check out the following article on the progress being made in this area of brain research:
